SAVE KIDDIE
AND DIGITAL SAFETY

Founding of SKDS

Our journey began when Maria JC Mulder, Private Investigator Christian Botha, and Lieutenant Colonel Rudi van Dyk recognized the urgent need for specialized support services for survivors

Save Kiddie and Digital Safety is more than an organization — it’s a movement. Our goal is to expand our reach, educate more people, and create a future where children and adults are protected, informed, and empowered.

While working with law enforcement, investigators, and organizations dedicated to child safety, We encountered countless cases where victims — especially children — were left without proper guidance, emotional support, or a clear path to healing. Many struggled with justice system complexities, emotional trauma, and digital dangers, leaving them feeling unheard and vulnerable. We set out to create an organization that would fill the gap — one that would provide hands-on support, expert guidance, and educational resources to protect and empower both children and adults.

(3 November 1969 – 13 July 2024)
1988 – 2024 (SAPS)

It is with great respect and heartfelt sorrow that I, Maria JC Mulder, honor the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Rudi van Dyk. A man of unwavering integrity and dedication, Rudi devoted his life to the South African Police Service (SAPS), serving with distinction for over three decades. His unparalleled contributions to law enforcement, investigation, and leadership leave an enduring legacy.

Lieutenant Colonel Rudi van Dyk began his career in the SAPS, earning his first commendation in 1988 with a Certificate of Completion for a Riot and Crowd-Control Course. This marked the beginning of an illustrious career that was defined by a steadfast commitment to justice and continuous professional development. Among his many accomplishments, notable achievements include:

  • 1993: Completed the Special Weapon and Tactical Course

             (S.W.A.T).

  • 1995: Specialized training in the Child Protection Unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Rudi van Dyk’s academic and practical training spanned decades, including certifications in forensic DNA sampling, labor relations, advanced crime investigation, and information handling. His commitment to his work was reflected in the numerous medals and accolades he received, including a National Diploma in Police Administration and a commemorative medal celebrating the 75th anniversary of the SAPS.

I had the privilege of working closely with Lieutenant Colonel van Dyk from 2010 to 2024. During this time, I witnessed firsthand the exemplary quality of his work and the depth of his character. Christian Botha

Retired Private Investigator CHRISTIAN BOTHA - CSI Basics

Christian Botha is a retired Private Investigator with over 26 years of distinguished service in the field, fully licensed with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority of South Africa. Born and raised in the former Transkei, Christian matriculated at Umtata High School before embarking on a multifaceted career dedicated to security and investigation.

Christian began his professional journey by joining the army, where he served with the Riot Squad in the Dog Handling Unit. His expertise in security management later earned him a position at Sun International, where he rose to the role of Group Security Manager. His training spans South Africa, England, and Scotland, where he refined his skills under some of the finest private investigative educators in the industry.

While in England, Christian worked alongside Her Majesty’s Protection Service, occasionally assisting with escorting Princess Anne during her stays. His international assignments included providing security for high-profile events such as The David Copperfield Show and Holiday on Ice while working with Granada Sterling. Despite being recalled to Sun International in 1995, his passion for private investigation led him to pursue his dream full-time.

In 1999, Christian established Christian Botha Investigation CC, operating initially from modest resources but quickly gaining a reputation for excellence. Fluent in English, Afrikaans, and some Xhosa, he served clients from around the world, not only tracking down criminals but also championing the importance of proving innocence when required.

Christian’s commitment to justice extended beyond investigations. In 2008, he collaborated with Maria Mulder to develop a groundbreaking database for tracing missing children and juvenile delinquents. He provided strategic guidance, connected Maria with law enforcement experts such as W/O Rudi van Dyk of the FCS Unit, and supported the program that became a vital tool for South African Police and Private Investigators. This database ensures that records are maintained for life, unlike the current SAPS criminal database, and has the potential to prevent cases from going cold.

A firm believer in lifelong learning, Christian has also documented his experiences in a series of published works, preserving knowledge for future generations. Despite the challenges, including living with PTSD, he remains steadfast in his belief that knowledge is power and a legacy that can never be taken away.
